The ninth edition of BIAAF celebrates sustainable fashion with CLO and Pyratex

At the ninth edition of the BIAAF competition, innovation and sustainability in fashion took centre stage thanks to collaborations with CLO3D and PYRATEX. This annual event highlighted the importance of integrating cutting-edge technology and sustainable materials into fashion, rewarding emerging designers who are leading this transformation.

CLO is an advanced fashion design and 3D simulation software that allows designers to create garments and virtual prototypes with unprecedented precision. This year, they highlighted the work of three exceptional designers: Cheng-Zong Yu, Julia Suppanz and Ana Córdoba Crespo, awarding them a one-year licence to the innovative software.

  • Cheng-Zong Yu presented “The Cyberflâneur in Taiwan”, a collection that uses data from everyday internet use to create prints that connect the real world with the virtual, while also promoting environmental conservation.
  • Julia Suppanz in “Same Same, but Different” addressed diversity and sustainability with recyclable trainers, using materials such as neoprene and 3D printed soles.
  • Ana Córdoba Crespo with “2058” fused traditional craftsmanship and modern technology, using digital modelling and biodegradable filament to sculpt pieces that challenge the dichotomy between the physical and the digital.

PYRATEX has established itself as a leader in the research and development of high-performance natural materials. Its mission is to replace synthetic textiles with natural and responsible alternatives, which has led to innovations such as fibres based on seaweed and agricultural waste. In this edition of the competition, Pyratex awarded Ayumi Kajiwara and Aya Letzer with a fabric menu valued at 1,500 euros, highlighting their commitment to sustainability and recognising their ability to innovate and create from what others consider waste.

  • Ayumi Kajiwara, with her project, created unique pieces from found objects, transforming discarded materials into contemporary wearable art pieces.
  • Aya Letzter presented “Trash Talk”, a collection that redefines discarded materials as valuable, using artisanal techniques to create luxurious pieces from what is normally considered trash.

At BIAAF, we are committed to promoting innovation and sustainability in fashion. Our competition not only rewards creativity and talent, but also encourages the industry to adopt responsible practices. This year’s winners have demonstrated that it is possible to fuse technology, art and sustainability to create a positive impact in the fashion world.

Through these initiatives, BIAAF continues to lead the way towards a future where fashion is not only innovative and aesthetically impactful, but also profoundly environmentally responsible.
