She Drowned In Honey
DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK
This project explores an emotional state from my past, concentrating on the image of a girl, frozen in an awkward position, encapsulated in the sticky, gluey material and unable to move. Gathering and smocking techniques were applied to achieve extreme volumes and diversity of textures. I also used silk screen printing and manipulations with the silicone.
INSPIRATION
Inspiration came from an internal feeling of excessive attention from people so it felt like they literally cling to you. I used images of honey and wax, that reminded me of the sticky material, that is melting around. Visual inspiration also came from marks and the images of insects, especially flies, that look like they got stuck in a clammy substance.
MATERIALS USED
Organza, ivory food colouring, sometimes not blended properly to create the effect of dirty lumps on the wet and sticky skin.
