BBK and BIAAF launch a scholarship programme for young designers from Bizkaia in Central Saint Martin’s

The BBK Foundation and Bilbao International Art & Fashion (BIAAF) continue their commitment to the development of creative talent by opening a new call for applications for scholarships aimed at young fashion designers, offering the opportunity to participate in a specialized two-week course at Central Saint Martin’s. 

This is a unique opportunity for young designers from Bizkaia to learn at one of the world’s most renowned institutions in the field of fashion and design, strengthening their talent and creativity in order to contribute to the cultural and artistic growth of the region.

COURSE CONTENT:

This is a tailored short course, which will introduce students to the Cristobal Balenciaga Museum’s “Transmissions” project. It will focus on creative direction and initial design and technical processes. Innovation and experimentation related to the students’ chosen concepts, creative design and construction methodologies.

Students will work on the visualization of a personal narrative concept related to the Transmissions brief and select an area of study. They will produce an extensive personal research portfolio, in a format of their choice, outlining their design direction and documenting their experimental 3D process from initial form creation to technical pattern making and garment detailing.

In addition, they will receive design classes that will take them from research and concept creation to creative responses through collage and drawing. The chosen design will be translated into an experimental 3D process using a mannequin to decide on construction, volumes and proportions, which will then be resolved with the help of a pattern cutting tutor into a more authentic technical design outcome.

Students will be assisted by a sewing technician to create a “toile” resolved in a relevant fabric from their technical patterns to achieve a prototype garment that can be further developed after the course into a final garment in the chosen fabrics.

  • Duration: Two weeks.
  • Candidate Profile: Young designers from Bizkaia, between 18 and 35 years old, with knowledge of English, interested in developing their own collection.
