A new edition of Aristocrazy Design Bootcamp is coming
A new edition of Aristocrazy Design Bootcamp will be held from February 12 to 15 in collaboration with BIAAF
Following the 2019’s succesful editon, where participants from to the Antwerp Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Tel Aviv’s Shenkar College of Engineering and Design, New York´s Fashion Institute of Technology as well as Bilbao’s Fine Arts Faculty, enjoyed this project aimed to boost co-creation among emerging creative talents.
Conducted by Architecture Studio Mayice, the ’Soul of Glass’ experience aimed to transmit a base for the use of glass, one of the most complex, delicate and magical materials when it comes to creating pieces, sculptures and shapes.
Each participant created a conceptual piece that embodied the soul of the material and represented the value of a jewel thanks to the guidelines received during a masterclass by the renowned Master Glazier Javier Pérez Valero at the Royal Glass Factory of La Granja de San Ildefonso, Spain.
This year Aristocrazy in collaboration with BIAAF has surprised with a new innovative and creative proposal that tries once again to value crafts. Here are the keys to this edition:
THE MATERIAL
Basketry is one of the oldest trades, even before ceramics. Transforming plant fibers not only in baskets but in a multitude of objects and constructions has been and is its function. The climatic and geographical diversity of the Iberian Peninsula entails an enormously varied vegetation and this is reflected in its basketry; a basketry that includes in its production from the elaborated with plants own of humid and cold regions until the one that comes from almost desert lands. Wealth of materials implies a wealth of techniques and that is another characteristic of Spanish basketry.
THE TEACHER
Carlos Fontales is a basket maker, teacher and researcher of wickerwork for thirty years. He has published two books: Basketry of the towns of Galicia and More than baskets. Spanish popular basketry. In recent years it has also been carrying out large‐format facilities built with vegetable fibers.
