Topaketa
Topaketa – ‘encounter’ in Basque – embodies the creative conversation that exists between the two characters that make up Boscoier. In this encounter, ‘the bather’s son’ and ‘the arrantzale’s son’ explore their respective origins and specify their answer to a particular question: what is Basque in fashion?
Drawing inspiration from past artists, such as those from the 20th-century Bilbao
magazine Hermes, Oier Gil and Bosco Tamames focus on the Basque culture. The ruggedness of Chillida is pivotal in their collection, symbolizing the fusion of corporeality and refinement, alongside the sensitive perspectives of others like the Zubiaurre siblings, Balenciaga, Zuloaga, Ortiz Echagüe, or Oteiza.
The conversation between the characters will also influence the materiality of Topaketa. Oier will work with coarser fabrics like cotton or wool, knotting them together, while Bosco will focus on understated fabrics such as silk and organza, enhanced with embroidery.
