Azimuth is a collection of reconstructed garments derived from the mapping, dressing, and wearing of personal objects. The garment becomes a folded memory, carrying intimate sites that are impossible to fit into a suitcase: a bed becomes a trench coat, a chair a shirt, a bathtub an overcoat, and a suitcase a suit.
In his 1950 essay “The Thing”, Martin Heidegger explores thingness as the essential quality of an object, existing not merely as material but as a meaningful presence shaped by relationships and functions within the world. The notion of thingness is applied to clothing in the context of forced displacement.
The designs are a reconstruction of archetypes, abstract in form yet grounded in the familiarity of fabric. Beeswax-treated parachute fabric enhances folds and marks, evoking memory and temporality. Phantom stitches and embossed details suggest absence, highlighting the presence of the void.
