My Sweet Revolution
“At 13, I received an unwanted gift: diabetes. Alongside being Nanook, it defined me. Wanting to transform this baggage into art, I collected my medical materials. How to depict it creatively? It had to be subtle, like the disease itself. I tried to frame all these emotions in a comic I drew, which was the start of this collection.”
All the pieces in this collection are partially made out of disposable medical waste from diabetes patients. She was first experimenting with the pile of materials she had at home. This evolved into a conversation between her and other diabetes patients who sent her their materials, wrote letters about their experiences, and became part of this story.
