Jersey diversity
Using machine-made tubular knits, the project investigates how layering, wrapping, and sculpting fabric directly on the body can create form without relying on conventional garment structures. It redefines jersey’s role in contemporary fashion. Minimal material intervention leads to bold, sculptural results, where a basic knitted tube becomes a medium for movement.
The project is inspired by regeneration, rethinking innovation through care, repair, and the reactivation of existing textile technologies. It explores how overlooked industrial materials and standardized fabrics can be transformed through subtle interventions, mimicking natural complexity. By extending the life of circular knitting machines, the work reimagines ordinary textiles as expressive, evolving surfaces.
On a circular knitting machine, a white base fabric was knitted with a single polyester stripe. To support pleating, synthetic monofilament provides structure, while cotton enables space dyeing through color absorption. This blend also allows burnout treatment, selectively removing cellulosic fibers to create semi-transparent areas and enhance texture, depth, and visual contrast within the final silhouette.
