Gianni Versace - Retrospective

Berlin pays homage to the late designer with a new exhibition

Last year marked two decades since Gianni Versace’s assassination and so his name has become hot news lately. As
well as a controversial TV show that narrates his death, the last few months have been filled with tributes to the late designer, who created a personal and unique style. For example, his own sister and creative director of his label,
Donatella, dedicated the Spring 2018 collection to recreating some of his most iconic designs from the House archives.

Next January 30th, a new exhibition opens its gates in Berlin “Gianni Versace – Retrospective”, which will delve
into Gianni’s legacy in the fashion world. It promises to be the biggest and most spectacular exhibition ever dedicated to the designer, including garments, accessories, home-decor, photography and even a reproduction of Gianni’s
bedroom from his Miami mansion. The exhibition has been made possible with the collaboration of numerous private collectors, friends and family members. Pieces worn by famous clients and models like Prince, Madonna, Elton John, George Michael, Claudia Schiffer, Naomi Campbell or Linda Evangelista will be at display.

Gianni Versace’s work stood out for his risky and extravagant style that drew inspiration from both Pop Art and more classical artistic movements like mannerism. In 1978 he opened his own label, Versace, with the famous medusa logo. The label expanded in the subsequent year with the creation of accessories, jewellery, furniture and china.
