S.O.S. White Havana
DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK
The collection has an “eclectic” character; the convergence of different arts, styles and movements. Its silhouette belonging to the 1950s “new look” (Dior) -- horizontal, vertical and radial (art deco) -- creating and shaping the structure while the large side pockets are reminiscent of the traditional Cuban Guayabera.
Is inspired by nostalgia for a majestic city – Havana. A city frozen in time; streets that breathe past decades; the eclectic mix of colonial architecture. Where cobblestone and asphalt, relics of American cars, are wonderfully preserved despite the years, perfumed by the omnipresent scents of snuff, rum, rumba and sun.
"Gros Grain" in white cotton with imperfections, classified as waste material by the Italian textile industry, grants an ecological character. Each band is fitted on the mannequin, where a steam iron helps give direction and shape to the particular structures/motifs. They’re then bound together using a linear sewing machine.
