A Fantasy Realized is a Nightmate
DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK
Using crucial elements from Hitchcock’s movies, the aim was to convey the notion of a dream realized as a nightmare. Gathering to portray the idea of catching a fantasy. Leaving the backs bare to suggest voyeurism. Complimenting the fatal blonde with intense greens as in Vertigo. Suggesting the fragility of every dream through hand crafted lace.
Dreams, they do come true. But are they what one really wished for? A question, which Alfred Hitchcock portrays in Vertigo, was key inspiration for the development of the collection. Like the fascination with a beautiful creature, but if you come too close to her, you see is an illusion.
Muslin coated with wall paint and PVA glue, later on dried with thin plastic foil in order to seem as if it is leather. Lace cut-outs reconnected with loose threads and glue. Soft tulle with embroidery.
