Silent Rave

DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK

 

This Silhouette is part of the Silent Rave Collection. It comprises a hand-dyed, panelled bodysuit with tabi socks that have leather soles. The vest tries to mimic the forms of a denim jacket, as it tops and complements the flatness of the skirt. The skirt is panelled wool with topstitching.

INSPIRATION

 

The skirt incorporates caricatures that I draw in paper with watercolours. It contrasts with the drier pseudo academic writing of the back “glamour is delayed politics”. Looking at the thinking of philosopher Paul B. Preciado and curator Nav Haq, the outfit tries to conjure the attitude of a Rave.

MATERIALS USED

The bodysuit is made from viscose cut-outs from other student’s collections from previous years. The skirt I patterned in Rhino 3D and printed with a large-scale plotter. The word placement was also calculated in Rhino 3D, I cut a template by hand and printed it with an ink-soaked sponge.
