Re-Imagining Wa$te
DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK
Clothing genres redefined, resulting in graphic high-end evening apparel. Playfully voluminous skirts are pleated using shoelaces and a running stitch inspired threading technique. Bodices are sculpted to create form fitting feminine silhouettes. This dynamic collection is designed to be worn before, during and after the New York Met Gala.
INSPIRATION
Re-Imagining Wa$te takes a stand against fashion and textile industry waste. Challenging perceptions of what are considered end of life materials by upcycling pre-consumer sneaker waste into high-end fashion. To look upon these clothes and see beauty and worth, embodies the time-tested philosophy of one’s trash is another’s treasure.
MATERIALS USED
Upcycled materials consist of pre-consumer sneaker waste, a sports equipment bag from the trash and heat transfer vinyl offcuts. These are paired with neoprene mesh and custom prints. Printed fabrics are primarily natural fibres, with some cottons being organic and all have been printed using environmentally friendly pigments and processes.
