DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK
I started my collection by doing research on sixties dresses that I saw in French movies. After making some collages, I developed a new shape for the silhouettes in which bows play an important role.
INSPIRATION
My collection is based on the French movie ‘Les Parapluies de Cherbourg’, directed by Jacques Demy and that mid-sixties vibe of France and the colourful wallpapers. Catherine Deneuve instantly became the muse of my collection. I was also inspired by Belgian artist Jan Yoors and his portraits of Spanish gypsies with whom he lived together in the sixties.
MATERIALS USED
Silk organza, cotton, velvet and wool that I adapted with some embroideries. I also designed a hand-painted print of oranges that is based on one of the wallpapers from the movie.
